If you’re heading off on holiday and wondering whether you can swim after a spray tan, the good news is yes, you absolutely can! However, there are a few things you should know if you want your tan to last as long as possible.

Can I go in the pool with my spray tan? Will the chlorine ruin my spray tan?

Chlorine won’t remove your spray tan instantly, but it can dry out your skin, which means the tan may fade more quickly.

My advice is to rinse off after swimming, gently pat your skin dry and apply plenty of moisturiser.

What about the sea?

Salt water can also dry out the skin, so the same advice applies. Keep your skin well moisturised and avoid rubbing your skin vigorously with a towel.

Can I still develop a natural tan?

Yes! A spray tan doesn’t prevent you from developing a natural tan. In fact, many people love having a spray tan before going away because it gives them an immediate glow while their natural colour develops throughout their holiday.

Of course, don’t forget your SPF. A spray tan does not protect your skin from the sun.

How can I make my spray tan last longer?

A few simple steps can make all the difference:

• Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing.

• Avoid very hot baths and showers. Use a gradual tanning lotion to maintain your colour.
